Our yurts are based on traditional Kyrgyz gers, which use steam shaped roof poles and a light steamed wheel for the crown (known as the 'eye to the heavens'). |
| |
They are perfectly suited to the climate on the steppes of Asia. When insulated with felt, they are warm in -40c, and cool and airy in scorching summer sun. The winds can whip across the steppes but yurts are stable and strong, and have an aerodynamic profile which 'sheds' the wind. |
| |
Yurts (or ger, which means 'camping ground' and 'home') have been a primary dwelling of Mongolian people for more than 1000 years, and are still home to about 50% of Mongolia. |
| |
| They truly are one of the most versatile and elegant structures ever made, and are now enjoyed the world over. |
